Well, How Did I Get Here?

It seems appropriate that if I am going to start a blog about my business and the work that I do, you probably are interested in knowing how this all started. It seems so long ago and yet sometimes just like yesterday. This path was not one I sought out, rather it came to me out of nowhere and wouldn’t go away until I faced it and looked into it. My early days of exploring this path, I had and continue to have a lot of support from my friends, family, teachers and clients who have all encouraged me to “keep doing the work.” Reluctance would be an understatement to describe how I started this work.

What then began to happen is the word “healing” started showing up everywhere I went, and looked. It was surreal, it was even on a billboard! I started thinking I was imagining it but my husband started to notice it too. Finally one Sunday in church they announced that soon they would be having a class on Healing Touch what it is and how it worked. My husband nudged me with his elbowed and said “are you getting it?” I rolled my eyes, “yes, I am getting it.”

I decided to contact a friend who I knew would not think I was crazy. I told her my story and she happened to be undergoing treatment for cancer at the time and shared with me that she had a group of healers working on her after each treatment and that I should come by and see what they were doing. I said yes I would like to do that. The following week I went to my friends home and got to meet the group of healers that were working with her. Everyone was warm and welcoming and I was looking forward to observing what they were going to be doing. To my surprise they invited me to join in on the healing. I told them I had no idea what or how to do the work. They said just send love and healing energy to her. It sounded simple and even though I was nervous I could send those thoughts to her. We place our hands on her in different places and then sent our hearts and energy to her. I don’t know how long we stayed this way, but soon I started to notice my hands getting warm and that I could “feel” energy in them. It was as if they were somehow activated that day.

Soon it was time to switch locations and that put me at the head of the table and I was now

more uncomfortable as to what to do. My hands were warm and now I was told to place my hands on her eyes. Because I was self conscious and not really sure of what I was doing I placed my hands slightly hovering over her eyes. Within moments my friend said, “move your hands they are too hot!” this startled me and everyone opened their eyes and looked at me. I raised my hands higher until she felt comfortable.

Everyone else around the table just smiled and nodded at me closed their eyes and went back to work. Afterwards we all talked and they told me that I was a healer, and that my hands were activated and that what I was feeling was energy, healing energy. I really wanted to run out of there it was too much information and my hands seemed to have a life of their own, and what was I to do with them like this? I left the gathering feeling that I needed to look into all of this and that I couldn’t wait until Sunday afternoon to be at church for the Healing Touch class.

In 2004 I attended a volunteer appreciation event at a Unity Church I had belonged to. It was a wonderful event for volunteers and we got to choose 3 items off a list of activities and services that we could indulge in. I decided that I would choose things I hadn’t done before: a writing class on “Where will I be in 20 years”, a pilates class, and a Healing Touch session. The writing class was very interesting and I enjoyed the experience mostly because I sat next to a very interesting and wonderful woman who would become a friend. Pilates was hard and a bit awkward though I sort of enjoyed it. Last up was going to be the Healing Touch session. While I waited my turn I began a conversation with a Network Chiropractor who was delightful and who I would see again 6 years later not only walking in my neighborhood, but officing where I worked part time. 2 years after that we began sharing an office together.

It was my time to get on the table and the practitioner asked me a few questions and told me what she was going to do. I was nervous but curious. I remember very little of the session other than my heart racing around (anxiety) and that I was out of it.

After the session she shared with me what she found, it was interesting but I wasn’t really listening to what she said because I just felt so different. Near the end of our talk she asked me if I was a healer? “No” I told her. She then said well I think you might be one and may want to look into it. What??? Great here comes her sales pitch, but no. She said thank you and we parted ways. I left to go meet my husband outside and immediately I noticed that the world was brighter, I felt lighter and happier and for no particular reason. Something within me was changed but I had no words for it. It lasted for days and I tried to explain it to my husband but I wasn’t doing a very good job. How do you explain the inexplicable?
